Inflammation and Fitness Studies

I’ve always heard that chronic inflammation has a very negative effect on the body and in one of my psychology classes recently this fact has been pretty much hammered in that inflammation can cause you to be at risk for many illnesses. This has made me wonder if there are any studies on how fitness relates to inflammation and if decreasing inflammation can result in better fitness? Has anyone seen or heard about any?
